Environment guides were distributed to the masses as part of the 'Be Selfish' campaign by the Siddha Group to encourage residents to spare a thought for their surroundings.

Even the historic Victoria Memorial Hall grounds here were thrown open to students for quiz contests and slogan writing competitions on the theme of 2014 World Environment Day - 'Raise Your Voice Not the Sea Level'.

Victoria Memorial to go green
The resplendent Victoria Memorial will be bathed in green light in the evening to spread the message of a cleaner environment on the occasion.

From 6.15 pm to 6.45 pm on Thursday, the white marble monument and icon of the eastern metropolis, will be green-lit for the fifth year in a row.

This is part of a corporate social responsibility initiative of Tata Steel.

The historic edifice will host quiz competitions and slogan writing contests on the theme of 2014 World Environment Day - "Raise Your Voice Not the Sea Level".
