New Delhi: Koshi Bedari Morcha (KBM) president Ahmad Ashfaque Karim has demanded the special status to the economically and educationally backward Koshi region.

Koshi region has eight districts; Katihar, Purnia, Araria, Kishanganj, Madhepura, Saharsa, Supaul and Khagaria. Karim has been struggling hard for the development of the region for the last few years.

For the overall development of the Koshi region, Karim has demanded to announce Purnia as sub-capital of Bihar. He also demanded to set up a bench of Patna High Court in Purnia.    

In order to get rid of educational backwardness of the Koshi region, KBM president has sought to set up Aligarh Muslim University in Katihar. Karim also happens to be the chairman of Katihar Medical College which provides low cost medical treatment for the patients.

For the revival of industries in the region, Karim demanded to make operational jute, sugar and paper mills in Forbesganj, Banmankhi (Purnia) and Saharsa respectively.

Floods in River Koshi wreck havoc in the region every year. Floods have caused the mass displacement of people in the Koshi region. Karim demanded the immediate rehabilitation of such people.
