Film: Krrish 3

Director: Rakesh Roshan

Cast: Hrithik Roshan, Priyanka Chopra, Kangana Ranaut and Vivek Oberoi

A third in the franchise that began with 2003 hit sci-fi movie "Koi... Mil Gaya", "Krrish 3" will take forward the story of the superhero Krrish, played by Hrithik.

The film toplines Priyanka Chopra, Kangana Ranaut and Vivek Oberoi. While Priyanka plays Hrithik's love interest, Kangana and Vivek will be seen in negative roles.

If "Krrish 2" saw Krishna defeating Siddhant Arya and save his father Rohit, "Krrish 3" will reportedly see the superhero fighting with a dark force, an evil genius who is spreading fear.

Krrish 3 has gone beyond Computer Generated Interface (CGI) by using miniature VFX in the film to shoot most action sequences. Instead of shooting abroad, the team created created miniature version of Mumbai using this technology, and then merged action scenes shot separately featuring Hrithik in it under single frame. This film is definitely the biggest science fiction of the year.

Both Kangna and Vivek are seen in an entirely different avtaar that they have ever seen before.

Box Office Report Card

Predicting a "thunderous start" for the film, trade analyst Taran Adarsh feels that eventually the film's content will decide its course.

"I am certain that the film will see a thunderous start. But then after that the content of the film will decide how many people go and see it," Adarsh said.

According to sources, the Rs 100-Rs 150 crore film will see a wide release and hit about 3,500 screens.

When asked about the cost, the film's director-producer Rakesh Roshan said, "I can't reveal the budget of the movie, but it has been a very costly film."

Red Chillies VFX, a subdivision of Shah Rukh's motion picture production banner Red Chillies Entertainment, worked on the special effects worth Rs 26 crore for "Krrish 3".

Aggressive promotion has become must in the current scenario as the first three days' collection can make or break a film. And the Roshans have done everything - from tapping digital space by launching the first poster Facebook to merchandising to travelling to various cities.

Also, a range of special emoticons were launched as a part of the film's promotions on social networking site Facebook.

Director’s cut

At a time when Bollywood potboilers are minting Rs 100 crore, Rs 200 crore and more, Rakesh Roshan hopes "Krrish 3" reaches the Rs 1,000 crore milestone at the box office.

Rakesh is confident that the film will make audiences "proud". "I don't know how the opening will be for the film. But the film has been made well and it will definitely make audiences proud," Roshan said.

Rakesh further said if "Krrish 3" does well he will game for a fourth installment of the movie."If this does well, we may make 'Krrish 4'. We have left a hook for it (in 'Krrish 3')," Roshan said.

For the filmmaker, developing a super villain was a more troublesome job. "Krrish has been established as a superhero. The difficulty was how to make a super villain. We had to make sure the powers of super villain were more than that of superhero. It is all been very difficult. To make a villain is very easy in Hindi films but to make a super villain is very difficult," Rakesh said.

"To make a super villain was a creative call and not a commercial one. Now who will be in his gang, so we have mutants - one of it is Kaya (Kangna Ranaut)," he said.

The director chose Vivek Oberoi to play super villain Kaal, who was the first and only choice for this role.

For the role of Kaya, a mutant, to be played by Kangana Ranaut, a lot of actresses were considered. "When I first went to Kangana she refused to do the film. Then I tried other actresses but I couldn't get Kangana out of my mind while writing the script. So I went back to her with the bound script. She read it and called me within 3-4 hours and agreed to do the film," he said.

Star’s speak

Hrithik is proud of the project, especially as his father took a decision to use all "Hindustani" artists for the visual effects and action. "It is the first truly home grown superhero film and it is a proud feeling for us. If 'Krrish 3' is a success or rather when 'Krrish 3' is a success, let me be positive about it, it will be great for the sake of our artists. The scope will be so much for them that we will not just be able to match (international levels) but also go beyond it.”

Actress Kangana Ranaut, who will be seen doing a lot of action for her negative role of a superwoman, says etching out the role was physically taxing. "It was difficult because it was physically challenging for me. The action was a bit unreal. It was very raw and a normal human being can't do it," Kangana.

"I always wanted to play a superwoman and I was happy to do this. This is one of my best performances. I only hope everybody praises our hard work," said the 26-year-old.

Actor Vivek Oberoi, who will be seen as a villain named Kaal, says bad characters have always attracted him. He especially likes Kaal. "Bad characters have always attracted every actor and it is so enjoyable to play a negative shade or character. I am very excited because there is an aristocratic aura around this character. This character is the prince of darkness. He is a super villain who is the king of his own world," he said.

Actress Priyanka Chopra seems quite positive for 'Krrish 3'. "It (film) is a labour of three years of hard work and I do hope this film ends up being what people expect. And 'Krrish' is a franchise which kids and families can go and watch. I am hoping people will like the film, the film will do well and as a team we are excited about it," she said.

The third version of ‘Krrish’ has something for everyone, from kids to elderly couples. So, celebrate this Diwali with the superhero who stands victorious against the evils.
