New York: Singers Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber will join revellers in New York City's Times Square on December 31 to bid farewell to 2011 and welcome 2012, an official said.

Approximately one million people are expected to gather at Times Square to enjoy performances by Lady Gaga and Bieber and watch the famous New Year's Eve Ball descend from One Times Square, Xinhua reported.

“On the last day of each year, Times Square -- the 'Crossroads of the World' -- becomes the focal point for millions of viewers across the globe,” said George Fertitta, chief executive officer of the NYC & Company, the official marketing, tourism and partnership organisation for New York City.

More than one billion people worldwide are expected to watch on television the Times Square New Year's Eve Ball Drop, a 104-year-old tradition.
