Lucknow: In her first major assignment after making her comeback to the BJP, the saffron mascot of the party and former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Uma Bharti is all set to join the BJP’s protest at Nighasan in Lakhimpur district.

A 14-year-old Muslim girl Sonam was found hanging from a tree in the premises of the Nighasan police station on June 11.

While the recent political turmoil in Uttar Pradesh over the Sonam’s mysterious death has provided an opportunity to Bharti to define her role in the parent party, it would also serve as an occasion to shed her hardline image.

She will join the Dharna at Nighasan organized by the BJP workers on June 18, which was decided on Wednesday in a meeting chaired by the party president, Nitin Gadkari, in Delhi.

Bharti will reach Shajahanpur from Delhi on June 18. She will stay put at Lakhimpur after attending the dharna for a day.
After meeting with the party workers, she will leave for Lucknow the next morning.
