Haridwar: A huge number of devotees thronged the banks of Ganga to take a holy dip to mark the Kartik Purnima festival. The devotees flooded the ghats of Ganga in the city of Lord Vishnu since early in the morning to take the blessings of the Almighty.

The mass bath was organized on the occasion of the full moon night or the 15th day of the month of Kartik, according to the Hindu calendar. At least 15 lakh people took the holy dip on this occasion, informed the district administration.

The city had bucked up the preparations for the mega festival to accommodate the large number of pilgrims on the full moon day.

Thousands of pilgrims flocked the ghats to seek the blessing of holy Ganga in the wee hours and performed rituals and worshipped Lord Vishnu after the bath. The flow of pilgrims was much more in the early hours of the day while the rush of devotes for the holy dip continued during the day.

Har Ki Pauri in Haridwar attracted the largest number of devotes wishing to avail the auspicious opportunity. A large number of foreign tourists also took the holy bath while people from Delhi, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and many other states reached here for the holy bath.

Although the whole month of Kartik is considered as auspicious for the holy bath, the fool moon day is of utmost significance.
