Ambedkar Nagar: Issue of land acquisition for expansion of NTPC project in Tanda is faced with hurdle. The dispute between local farmers and administration over land acquisition for the project may lead to shifting this project from the district to some other place.

Earlier, outgoing DM paid visits to the concerned villages of which land is to be acquired. Presently, tehsil level officials are holding talks with farmers to find a solution to the problem while political parties are not showing any concern in this connection.

The expansion plan is an important project which is likely to solve major power scarcity not only of the district but also of the State to a greater extent. After the completion of this project, power production would increase in the state.

NTPC’s land acquisition issue is persisting from 2010. It was proposed to acquire a total of 272.176 hectare land from nearby villages-  Salahpur, Rajor, Hasimpur, Husainpur Sudhana, Sharifpur, Ladanpur, Aasopur, Kakraahi, Smhriya, Keshavpur, and Panchpokhara for this project.

Land from nearly 1447 farmers is to be acquired whereas only 700 farmers have so far signed the agreement. Rest of the farmers are showing reluctance to give their land due to which, only 78 hectare land had been acquired till now.
