Latehar: Nine people including eight policemen and a minor were killed when Naxals attacked entourage of independent MP and former Speaker of Jharkhand Assembly Inder Singh Namdhari.

The incident was reported around 5:45pm. One woman and three Constables were injured in the Naxal attack.

According to reports, Maoists triggered three landmine explosions and opened fire when Namdhari was returning to Medininagar. He was returning after inaugurating a college in Latehar. The incident took place moments after his car passed the area through Garu Police Station.

Naxals blast mobile tower in Jhajha, kidnap two

Annoyed by the denial of a demanded levy, a Naxal group blasted the Airtel Tower with the help of ken bomb at Chay Gaon in Jhajha on late Friday night. The outraged Naxals also kidnapped a guard deployed at the tower and a villager.

Sources said, “The incident was reported around 1.30 am when around 20-25 Naxals blasted the two BTS, power point and battery of the tower. They also set the power generator on fire.”

On getting information, SDPO Kundan Kumar, Inspector Vaidnath Singh and SHO Ranjit Kumar rushed to the spot and investigated the matter. The police team has recovered a ken bomb from the spot.

Kundan Kumar said, “After a temporary shutdown, the mobile tower was recently restarted. The Naxals has demanded a levy and on refusal they carried out the illegal activity.”

Superintendent of Police Ramnarayan Singh claimed that efforts are underway to recover the kidnapped persons and arrest the people involved in the explosion.
