Kolkata: Breaking its silence on party Gujarat legislator and former minister Maya Kodnani being awarded 28 years imprisonment by a special court in the 2002 post Godhra riots, the BJP on Saturday said that the law has taken its own course.

"There is existence of rule of law in Gujarat. Law is taking it it own course in Gujarat. The verdict has been delivered as per law," the BJP national spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain said.

Kodnani, a former minister in the Narendra Modi government was yesterday awarded 28 years imprisonment by a special court in the Naroda Patiya massacre, the worst of the 2002 post-Godhra riots in which 97 people were killed.
