Welcoming the formation of the Commission, BLA president Ahmad Abdi said in a statement here that such a panel would bring about the much desired transparency in the appointment of judges in the higher judiciary.

The six-member Commission, headed by the Chief Justice of India, would include two senior-most Supreme Court judges, Union Minister of Law and Justice and two "eminent persons" nominated by a committee comprising the Prime Minister, CJI and the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha or leader of the largest opposition party in the Lok Sabha.

The BLA statement said that nowhere in the world 'judges appoint judges', as was being done under the collegium system of the Supreme Court.

BLA urged the Union government to ensure that various sections of the population including women, scheduled caste and scheduled tribes and minorities were included in the panel in the administration of justice.
