Addressing a press conference, Opposition leader and CPI-M veteran VS Achuthanandan said that Finance Minister KM Mani failed to address the main issues and problems faced by the people.
"Mani has not even spared children by hiking tax on bakery items. Clothes also would become costlier due to imposing of tax on textiles," Achuthanandan said.
However, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said that budget proposals would not have direct affect on the common man.
"Efforts have been made to mob up resources without affecting the purse of people," Chandy said, adding it that is a high-tech budget.
Meanwhile, autorickshaw and taxi workers have called for a 12-hour strike on January 28 to protest against tax proposals for motor vehicles.
