"Big leaders went to Muzaffarnagar after riots. Requested them to move a step forward but nobody came forward. We are in the government, we are taking required steps," Akhilesh told reporters in Lucknow in a reply to a question.

He claimed that there was a ‘sort of competition among these leaders to get in news, but nobody came for help’.

On a question regarding Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Lalu Prasad Yadav's visit to Muzaffarnagar, the UP CM said, "He called me, he is a big leader and it is a good thing that he went to Muzaffarnagar. I told him that if he has any suggestion that he could tell, we will extend all help."

Akhilesh also appealed to the people of the state, especially youth, to donate in the Chief Minister's relief fund if they wish to help the riot victims.

"We will distribute the fund among the children and their families," he said.

In response to a question about the rise of Aam Admi Party (AAP), Akhilesh said, "What is so big issue with Aam Admi Party in Delhi. 'Hum to unse be zyada aam hai' (We are more ordinary than them). We have better programmes. We have congratulated them for their victory and challenges ahead as well."
