As if the feud during the selection process for Olympics men's doubles event was not enough, the six time Olympian reached Games Village in Rio only to find out that he was not allotted a room, yesterday.

Earlier, media reports suggested that Paes refused to share a room with Bopanna, who chose Saketh Myeneni over him for doubles event but was forced to pair with the veteran by All India Tennis Association during the selection process earlier this year.
These series of events only add to the long list of controversies Leander has been part of. Let us have a look at some of them:

Estranged Relationship With Live-In Partner Rhea Pillai
Paes entered into a live-in relationship with Rhea Pillai in the year 2005. Rhea had ended her marriage with Sanjay Dutt and on the other hand Paes had broken up with actress Mahima Chaudhary. They both had similar emotional woes and that helped them come closer. The couple became parents to a daughter and named her Aiyana. However, things started to fall apart between the two and they are now fighting a legal battle for the custody of their minor child.

Rift With Long-Standing Doubles Partner Mahesh Bhupati
Also known as the 'Indian Express', the pair has seen best tennis moments together. The two dominated the doubles tennis scene in the 90s but things started to fall out post their 2006 Asian Games defeat which was followed by vicious comments from Paes questioning Bhupati's national commitment. After this incident, their professional relationship became rocky. However, for the 2008 Beijing Olympics, they decided to play together for their country and lost in the quarterfinals to the eventual champions Roger Federer and Stanislas Wawrinka.

Selection Furore With Bopanna For Rio Olympics 2016
This time around, it was Bopanna who got a chance to make the call regarding his partner and he chose Saketh Myneni over the 43 year old Paes. AITA interfered in the matter and allegedly forced Bopanna to go with Paes.

Bopanna and Paes are set to face M. Matkowski and L. Kubot of Poland in their maiden draw of Rio Olympics on Saturday.

We hope that this unwarranted series of events does not affect national interests at the mega sports event and the partners come home with medals around their necks.
