Kolkata: A Public Accounts Committee (PAC) report has exposed the large scale mismanagement of funds during the previous Left Front government.

According to the report, the Left Front government had spent Rs 15,000 crore, over and above the sanctioned limit, on various projects by flouting the stipulated norms.

The report tabled in the state assembly on Wednesday revealed the extent of expenditure incurred between 2003 and 2006.

Addressing a press conference after tabling the report, PAC Chairman Anisur Rahman said, “Though the state government can spend additional amount by taking proper permission from the assembly, but the same was not done in these cases.”

The additional expenditure is a clear violation of existing norms, said the PAC Chairman.

The PAC Chairman also suggested that such violation of norms should not be repeated in future.

PAC member and Congress legislator Asit Mitra cautioned that such over expenditure is caused due to lack of communication between finance and other departments.

Though such expenditure does not constitute scam but it raises suspicion of financial irregularities, added Asit.
