Bhubaneswar: The legislators in Orissa will now get a three-fold hike in their wages, following the passage of the salary and pension bill by the state Legislative Assembly here on Friday. The provisions of the bill will come into effect from the month of June.

The bill provides for hike in the salaries and allowances of Speaker of the Assembly, Chief Minister, Ministers and leaders of the opposition party. It also mentions about a higher pension scheme for ex-MLAs.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Raghunath Mahanti tabled the four different bills related to salary and pension schemes in the Assembly on Thursday. The salary and allowances of the MLAs have been increased to Rs 60,000 whereas ex-MLAs will now receive a monthly pension of Rs 35,000. Earlier they used to get only Rs 15,000.

The salary of Orissa Chief Minister has also been hiked from Rs 20,000 to Rs 59,000.
