Sardar made his first international appearance against Poland in 2003.  His senior team debut was in 2006 played against Pakistan.

Apart from captaining the national team, the hockey star also plays for his State Haryana and is a Deputy Superintendent Police in the State.

Not many know that his brother Didar Singh is also a hockey player and has represented Haryana State at national level and also Chandigarh Dynamos team in PHL.
