Jammu: Shabbir Bukhari, a Lashkar-e-Toiba militant, who is facing trial on charges of planning a suicide attack on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh during his visit to the Valley, wants to be an IAS officer.

The militant, who has also been slapped with charges of plotting murder of former Deputy Chief Minister Mangat Ram during his visit to South Kashmir, has already cleared preliminary tests of Kashmir Administrative Services (KAS) twice and now Commander Bukhari has asked for permission to appear for IAS examination.

However, the court has given the nod.

Srinagar District Judge Sanjeev Gupta has directed the Jail authorities to submit his forms in accordance with the jail manual and also to provide all the necessary material for exams to him.

Shabbir, a resident of Kereri Village in north Kashmir, was involved in the killing of former MoS for Education Ghulam Nabi Lone, in October 2005.

He was also involved in terror attacks in Mumbai and Gujarat. He was arrested in 2005 along with his associate.
