Faridkot, (JPN/Bureau): A local Congress leader, Veena Sharma, her son
and husband were among five persons who were sentenced to 10-years of
imprisonment by a local court in a drug recovery case under NDPS Act.

According to sources, police raided the house of Veena Sharma  and arrested her husband Subha Ram and five others including Seemerjeet Singh, Narayan Das, Rajpal, Basanty Devi with two kilos of drugs and currency notes worth forty five thousand rupees. Police have charged them with Section 15, 61, 81 under NDPS Act. It has declared Basanti Devi an absconder as she failed to appear before the court.

Deputy Chief of Crime Branch, Jagdeep Singh in his report said that Veena Sharma’s husband was involved in illegal trade and she was unaware of it.
On Saturday court pronounced sentence to all six accused. Veena Sharma, a Congress leader from Varniya fought the Assembly election in 1985 and lost.
