He dethroned three-time winner Cristiano Ronaldo in adding to his four consecutive awards from 2009 to 2012.

Arsenal head coach Arsene Wenger had predicted Barcelona forward to win the Ballon d'Or 2015 after admitting that he personally was a big 'enemy' of the prestigious football award.

"I'm a big enemy of the Ballon d'Or," Wenger was quoted as saying."It is certainly Messi who will win it, although I'm not a big fan of it," he said.

Messi is a favourite to win the award this year for the fifth time after helping Barcelona grab hold of five trophies in 2015. Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo and Messi's Barcelona teammate Neymar were also nominated for the award which were announced yesterday.
