New Delhi: New Delhi: In a major turn of event, BJP patriarch LK Advani on Monday quit all post he hailed in the saffron party.

Modi speaks to Advani after ‘elevation’

He apprised about his decision in a letter written to party president Rajnath Singh on Monday.

“No longer I have the feeling that this is the same idealistic party created by Shyama Prasad Mookerjee, Deendayal Upadhyay, Nanaji Deshmukh and AB Vajpayee,” Advani said.

“Finding it difficult to reconcile with either the functioning of the party or the direction in which it is going,” the BJP leader said.

Advani relinquished the posts held by him in the BJP Parliamentary Board, National Executive and Election Committee.

“Most BJP leaders are concerned just with their personal agendas. I have decided, therefore, to resign from the three main fora of the party: National Executive, the Parliamentary Board and the Election Committee. This may be regarded as my resignation letter,” he said.

Advani: Man who took BJP to new heights

"All my life I have found working for the Jana Sangh and the Bharatiya Janata Party -- a matter of great pride and endless satisfaction for myself,” Advani said.

The decision came a day after Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi was made BJP’s election campaign committee head.

Advani had skipped the three-day deliberations of the party in Goa over the weekend citing health reasons. This was the first time in the history of the saffron party that Advani had stayed away from the National Executive and the office bearers' meeting.

Sources said that Rajnath Singh and Modi were scheduled to go together to Advani's residence but the 85-year-old leader asked Singh to come alone for a meeting. When the BJP chief met Advani the latter expressed anger and resentment over Modi's elevation.

Rajnath rejects Advani's resignation

Rajnath Singh refused to accept Advani's resignation. "I have not accepted Shri Advaniji's resignation," Singh said in a tweet.

BJP sources said that the party leadership would make efforts to persuade Advani to reconsider his decision.

Here is the text of LK Advani's letter addressed to party president Rajnath Singh

Dear Shri Rajnath Singhji,

All my life I have found working for the Jana Sangh and the Bharatiya Janata Party a matter of great pride and endless satisfaction to myself.

For some time I have been finding it difficult to reconcile either with the current functioning of the party, or the direction in which it is going. I no longer have the feeling that this is the same idealistic party created by Dr Mookerji, Pandit Deendayalji, Nanaji and Vajpayeeji, whose sole concern was the country, and its people. Most leaders of ours are now concerned just with their personal agendas.

I have decided, therefore, to resign from the three main fora of the party, namely, the National Executive, the Parliamentary Board, and the Election Committee. This may be regarded as my resignation letter.

Yours Sincerely

LK Advani
