New Delhi: The Centre on Thursday announced setting up of a multi-modal logistic hub and a National Institute of Design (NID) in Haryana. Commerce and Industry Minister Anand Sharma on Thursday held meetings with Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda to discuss the industrial projects in the states.

An official statement said a state-of-the-art multi-modal logistic hub will be set up near Panchgaon Chowk at an estimated cost of nearly Rs 2,000 crore of, which the central government will contribute Rs 300 crore.

This logistic hub would transform Haryana into a regional logistics centre for the entire northern region, it said. Sharma also declared Manesar-Bawal Investment Region as one of the first seven National Manufacturing Investment Zones to be developed as green field integrated industrial townships.

"The development of Manesar-Bawal Investment region will see total infrastructure investments of over Rs 71,000 crore and total estimated investments in the region will be in the range of Rs 2.5 lakh crore and over the next 30 years provide employment to over 28 lakh people," it said.

While announcing a Mass Rapid Transit System in Haryana, Sharma said such a system would be established in the investment region at a projected cost of Rs 13,580 crore. This would be developed in PPP mode. A NID would be set up at Kurukshetra for which Haryana government will provide land.

"The government of India will provide Rs 135 crore for the entire project. Besides, a National Institute of Fashion Technology will be established at Panchkula," it added.

Quoting Sharma, the statement said that the Centre will support the establishment of a Global City spread over a large area of land which will be developed as a hi-tech city with a central business district, finance centre and an integrated exhibition-cum convention facility at Garhi-Harsaru.

"The Minister also had a high level review meeting on the project implementation, land acquisition and a joint centre-state task force for monitoring the timelines of the project that has been agreed upon to ensure that the road map drawn for project implementation is followed through," it said.
