Indore: A head constable was caught by the Lokayukta Police in Jhabua, accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 on Thursday from an accused in a criminal case.

Head constable Surendra Sharma posted at Khavasa post in Jhabua district was caught after a complaint by Kanji Bavria Garwal, who is an accused in a case of issuing threats to life, abuse and manhandling, Lokayukta sources said.

After arresting the accused in November, the head constable had already taken Rs 10,000 for setting him free on bail in the case.

Later, at the time of filing chargesheet in the case, he again demanded Rs 20,000 from him but the amount was settled to Rs 15,000, they said. Acting on a tip-off Lokayukta police laid a trap and when the accused was handing over Rs 10,000 to Sharma as first installment, he was caught red-handed by them. A case was registered against him under Prevention of Corruption Act and further investigations are on.
