New Delhi: On the first day of official meeting of the joint committee to draft the Jan Lokpal Bill, the government and Civil Society members agreed to move ahead in unison.

Making relevant changes in the Bill, the Civil Society panel gave its nod to the Selection Committee for choosing the Lokpal which would be headed by Prime Minister instead of the Rajya Sabha Chairperson. In the previous draft of Bill, the PM was not a member of the panel.

The government on the other hand agreed that the proceedings of the meeting would be videographed.

Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal and the Civil Society panel stated that next meeting would be held on May 2, there would be wider and open discussions on drafting of the Bill. The draft of Bill  presented by Hazare had significant changes.

After the meeting, Sibal and Prashant Bhushan said that wider consultations with people would be held and their suggestions would be included in the draft.

The meeting was audio-taped and the discussions for videorecording of the meeting would be held in the next huddle.

Apart from the Pranab Mukherjee and Kapil Sibal, others present in the meeting included Home Minister P Chidambaram, Minister for Minority Affairs Salman Khursheed.
