New Delhi: The much awaited opening ceremony of the London Olympics Games 2012 is just hours away after years of preparations.

The opening ceremony will be viewed by a global TV audience of around a billion people across the globe. The day of celebration will begin with a mass bell ringing.
Indians can watch the live telecast of opening ceremony on DD National and DD sports at 01:00 AM IST on Saturday.

Also, later in the day thousands of bells, big and small, rang out across Britain for three minutes as the country prepared for the London Olympics opening ceremony on Friday.

Churches across the UK and British embassies around the world got into the spirit of the bell-ringing extravaganza. It chimed about 40 times between 08:12 (0712 GMT) and 8:15 a.m. after special permission was granted by the British Parliament.

Meanwhile, the Olympic flame has arrived at City Hall on the Queen's rowbarge Gloriana after first waving through the maze at Hampton Court Palace and being carried along the Thames on the final day of the torch relay.

Around 50 boats took part in the flotilla reflecting London's waterborne heritage.

The flame's 70-day nationwide journey ends with the lighting of the cauldron during this evening's opening ceremony but the identity of the person who will take the honour is still a mystery for millions.

In the latest update, legally blind South Korean archer Im Dong-hyun set the first world records of the London Olympics just hours before the 2012 Games official opening ceremony.

Im broke the 72-arrow record he had set in Turkey in May by three points with a score of 699.

Meanwhile, Wimbledon champions Serena Williams and Roger Federer are in action on the opening day of the Olympic tennis tournament on Saturday, returning to the centre court just three weeks after their triumphs.
