On Monday, in the presence of BJP Uttar Pradesh in-charge Amit Shah, senior leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi announced party’s pre-poll alliance with Apna Dal.

Apna Dal secretary general Anupriya Patel said her party would try its best to ensure Narendra Modi-led NDA forms government at the Centre in lieu of two seats in UP.
Patel would herself contest election from the Mirzapur seat while Apna Dal would soon announce its candidate from the Pratapgarh constituency.

Shah was keen to strike an alliance with the Apna Dal, as several party leaders were conscious of the fact that the small regional party had an iron grip over the large Kurmi and Patel vote banks in eastern UP.

After assessing the entire situation, BJP, which is fighting tooth and nail to win maximum seats in UP, decided to give away two seats to Apna Dal.
