Even discussing this issue is like scratching the old wounds. The hailstorm, which hit the area just before the polls, further added to the worries of the people as a result of which they not keeping a close tab on the ongoing developments ahead of the Lok Sabha polls.

The Bundelkhand region, which is spread across seven districts of Uttar Pradesh, is still grappling with some of the most basic issues like water scarcity and other vital necessities. Such is the extent of their problems that people here are compelled to leave their houses.

They are least bothered about the ongoing hype surrounding the elections and not at all concerned about which party would come to power or which party would concede defeat. The people here are extremely upset and they would cast their votes only for the sake of doing it.

A mere reminder of the dreaded drought, which gripped the region five years ago, makes the people shiver. On top of that, the graft which took place in the name of package meant for the region further resulted in trust deficit. It is also doing the rounds as one of the major issues in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.

Today, the situation in Bundelkhand is so pitiable that people are even facing shortage of adequate drinking water and the irony is that no political party is talking about ways to address the grievances of the people.

In fact, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), which doled special package to Bundelkhand when it was at the helm of affairs in the state, has not included this very agenda this time around.

Though the Samajwadi Party demanded strict action against those who were allegedly involved in the economic package scam, Mulayam Singh Yadav-led party has kept mum on the issue after retaining power in the state. As a result, the entire issue has made its way into the cold storage.

Akhilesh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party government in Uttar Pradesh did not even approach the Centre in order to seek its assistance to deal with the outcome of natural calamities in the region.

Though Union Minister and Congress MP Pradeep Jain Aditya raised this issue before Akhilesh as well as Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar, it did not yield any positive result.

Interestingly, BJP candidate from Jhansi Uma Bharti has made it one of the key issues in the ongoing elections and it is obvious that she is looking to derive votes on the basis of some the critical issues of Bundelkhand.
