Few days back when the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had given Poonam Mahajan, who is the daughter of Late Pramod Mahajan, a ticket from the Mumbai North Central constituency, she was believed to be a feeble challenger against Priya Dutt.

But with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and SP both fielding strong candidates from this seat, the Congress’ electoral prospects have apparently become bleak here.

The AAP has given ticket to eminent lawyer and constitutional expert Nani Palkhivala’s son Phiroze, who has made the contest a four-way battle.

The Mumbai North Central seat has sizable Muslim and North Indian voters, therefore it is assumed that Farhan Azmi’s candidature may ring alarm bells for the Congress leader.

There is reportedly a lack of coordination between Dutt and Congress MLAs. This has also added to her woes.

After getting BJP ticket, Poonam Mahajan took the blessings of Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray and Republican Party of India (RPI) president Ramdas Athavle.
Interestingly, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) hasn’t named its candidate from the Mumbai North-Central seat yet.

Meanwhile, item girl Rakhi Sawant, who has praised BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, has also decided to try her luck from the Mumbai North-West constituency as an Independent.

Speculations were rife that Rakhi wanted to contest elections on BJP ticket but that couldn’t transpire. Now, she would be challenging Gurudas Kamat from Mumbai North-West seat.
