"UDF is confident of achieving a thumping victory in the elections," he said.

Lashing out at the Communist Party of India (CPI-M), he alleged that its wrong policies had turned the people away and added that the party had 'failed' to function as an effective opposition.

Over the question of his successor in the post of the Kerala Congress chief, Chennithala said that the Congress High Command would soon take a decision on the matter.

On a query related to the Revolutionary Marxist Party leader Chandrasekharan murder probe, he said police had done a commendable job in that regard.

Earlier, Chennithala has also met some Indian Union Muslim League leaders.
