Interestingly, among the list of such leaders two are still serving as the Chief Minister. BJP’s prime ministerial candidate and Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio are contesting elections. Six of them are coming from Karnataka and three from Uttarakhand, while two each from Jharkhand, Bihar, and Odisha.

Rajnath Singh: President of Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) and MP from Ghaziabad, Rajnath Singh is this time contesting elections from Lucknow seat. Significantly, he has served as chief minister of Uttar Pradesh from October 28, 2000 to March 7, 2002.

Sushma Swaraj: Senior BJP leader, Sushma Swaraj is contesting Lok Sabha elections from Vidisha seat of Madhya Pradesh. She has already served as chief minister of Delhi from October 13 to December 3, 1998. At present she is sitting MP from Vidisha.

Gulam Nabi Azad: Currently he is the Union Health Minister. He is contesting elections from Udhampur region of Jammu and Kashmir on Congress ticket. He has served as chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir from November 2, 2005 to July 11, 2008.

Sushil Kumar Shindhe: At present he is the Union Minister of Home Affairs. He is fighting the Lok Sabha polls from Sholapur constituency of Maharashtra. Shindhe is an MP from the same Sholapur seat. He has also served as chief minister of Maharashtra from January, 2003 to October 2004.

Ashok Chauhan: He is contesting elections from Nanded on a Congress ticket. Significantly, he has served as chief minister of Maharashtra from 2008 to 2010.

Amrinder Singh: He is fighting elections against BJP leader Arun Jaitley from Amritsar seat on a congress ticket. Amrinder Singh was the chief minister of Punjab from February 26, 2002 to March 1, 2007.

Mulayam Singh Yadav: He is the President of Samajwadi Party (SP) and is contesting general elections from Azamgarh and Mainpuri constituency in Uttar Pradesh. Mulayam Singh Yadav has served as chief minister of Uttar Pradesh thrice from December 5, 1989 to June 24,1991, from December 4, 1993 to June 3, 1995 and from August 29, 2003 to May 12, 2007.

Rabri Devi: Wife of Rashtriya Janta Dal’s (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, Rabri Devi is contesting general elections from Saran constituency of Bihar. Earlier she has served as chief minister of Bihar from the period of 2000 to 2005.
