Mullanpur: Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal on Tuesday said the state government had given its nod for expansion and modernisation of the Ludhiana airport.

"After the expansion, Boeing 320 will be able to land at the airport," he said. "With the installation of VFR and ILFS instrumentation, planes will be able to land at the airport during the night also," Badal said.

On the four-laning of Ludhiana-Talwandi road costing Rs 470 crore, he said the completion of the project would address the problem of road traffic on the busiest artery of Punjab.

Badal said the state government had embarked on an ambitious programme of connecting every town in Punjab with 4-6 lane roads.

The project would cost Rs 10,000 crore, he said. The Deputy Chief Minister said the Excise and Taxation Department would be fully computerised by December this year.
