Bhopal: The Madhya Pradesh government, which had bought 49 lakh metric ton (mt) wheat last year, is all set to procure bumper stock of wheat at the government rate from the registered farmers in the current fiscal.

For this, the registration process is underway and 2.75 lakh farmers have been registered with the procuring agency which will apprise them of buying wheat through SMSs.

The registration process will remain open till February 15. The registered farmers would be informed about details of procurement.

Government sources said the move will help the farmers get adequate price for their grains.

Food Commissioner Dipali Rastogi said, “Online registered farmers are being given receiving letters (acknowledgement) through which they can sell their produce at the procurement centers. The acknowledgement will bear the farmer code number. Once the code number is fed in the computer, the farmers will get entire information.”

Similarly, the farmers will be provided another acknowledgement which will mention the quantity of wheat bought form the farmers. On the basis of that acknowledgement, the banks will pay to the farmers.

29, 000 farmers have been registered in Harda district followed by Vidisha with 26, 982. Hoshangabad finished at third with 16, 217 registrations.
