Bhopal: In a move to keep proper record of doctors practising in Madhya Pradesh, state's medical council is gearing up to renew their registration after every 5 years.

Soon this process will be followed in other states also. According to sources, as it becomes difficult to locate the exact number of doctors practising in the state due to non-existence of such a rule  the state government has started this process .

Presently registration work is done only once in a year but there is no information available with the Medical Council of the state whether the concerned doctors  are really practising  in the state or are  doing study at that time or have settled outside  their own states.

The government neither has any information regarding the exact number of doctors practicing in the concerned area in proportion to the population. Moreover, the state medical council too doesn’t have a list containing the exact number of doctors practising in the concerned areas who are also having registration with the state medical council. Surprisingly many of them are maintaining their registration despite working in other states. Also many of them even after their deaths are shown to be registered with the state medical council.

Taking this into consideration Dr CM Tripathi Registrar, Madhya Pradesh Medical Council has directed doctors practising in the state to renew their registration after every 5 years. Preparation in this regard has already been started.

He further said that there is no provision of renewing the registration of doctors in the state. And medical council tends to cancel the registration of only those doctors against whom charges of negligence are proved.

Presently 35,000 doctors are registered with state's medical council whereas   700 new doctors get registered every year.

With the new regulation coming into place doctors will have to cough up Rs 4,000 for getting a permanent registration. Apart from this renewal of registration after every 5 years, will add up to exchequer of the state government .
