Bhopal: In-order to fill vacancies in transport department grappling with shortage of officials the state government is preparing to relax rules for the recruitment of Assistant Regional Transport officials.

In this connection a proposal has been sent to Transport Minister of the state Jagdish Deora and any decision in this regard would be taken in a cabinet meeting after his proposal gets recommendation of state cabinet.

Transport Ministry of the state is recognized for earning handsome revenue and thus adding up to state's exchequer but unfortunately there is an utter lack of competent officials in the department. Interestingly a single RTO (Regional Transport Official) is holding charge of two districts. Interestingly dozens of transport officials are due to retire within a year.

Moreover, most ARTO s (Assistant Regional Transport Officials) of the department have hardly completed one or two years in office and could not qualify the promotion test which was held recently.

According to norms, transport officials could be promoted as RTOs who have completed 5 years in office but it hardly happens so. As a result, there is an utter shortage of officials in transport department.
