Bhopal: In its bid to woo the Dalit vote bank, Madhya Pradesh government has decided to form a separate ministry for Schedule Castes. The Ministry will look after the development projects related to the SCs.

Making a formal announcement of it at the state conference of ‘Mahars’, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Sunday said, “To raise employment opportunities for Dalits, a separate package should be created.”

Patting his own back for championing the cause of Dalits, Chouhan said he has fulfilled his promise of developing a memorial of Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar in his birth place which he had pledged when he took over the charge of MP for the first time. The Chief Minister also slammed the Central Government for not properly maintaining the memorial of Ambedkar in the national capital.

The Chief Minister also highlighted the need for more land in the state capital in order to increase facilities for Kumbh pilgrims. Chouhan said his government is working on getting the extra defence land in the city transferred to the state government. It would in turn be used in improving facilities for pilgrims.
