Madras Café, the second film of John as a producer, is set to release on August 23 but various pro Tamil outfits have demanded a ban on the movie alleging that it portrays LTTE in a bad light.

“I respect everybody's opinion. But it is very important that they also respect our opinion. This is a democracy. I believe that everybody should bring something different. Somebody should take a stand and take up a subject like this ('Madras Cafe') and project it. I will not accept these bullying tactics of groups and parties and make such films in future as well,” the actor said over the ongoing controversy.

Expressing his angst over the controversy, the actor said, “If the Censor Board has no objection to the film's content and gives U/A certificate, I don't think there is anything wrong with the film.”

Set in the late 80s and early 90s in India and Sri Lanka, the upcoming spy thriller traces the political and military histories of the neighbours and covers the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) and Lankan rebel group LTTE's activities through the eye of an agent, played by Abraham.

Debutante Rashi feels lucky to be part of Madras Café

Model-turned-actor Rashi Khanna, who is playing the role of Army officer’s wife in Madras Café, said that she considers herself to be lucky as she got a chance to act opposite John Abraham in her debut movie.

“After reading the script, there was no point in thinking whether I should do it or not. I definitely wanted to work with Sujit sir and being cast opposite John was a very big thing for a newcomer like me,” Rashi told reporters.

The actress said that her character in the movie was totally opposite to what she is in her real life. “It was very challenging for me to portray a mature character which drained me out emotionally but I think it’s a great opportunity for me to prove my talent.”

Directed by Shoojit Sircar, 'Madras Cafe', features John Abraham in the lead role. The film also stars Nargis Fakhri, who plays a war correspondent and will mark the debut of actress Rashi Khanna.
