New Delhi: Actor-director Kamal Hassan failed to get a relief from Madras High Court on Thursday with regard to release of his film Vishwaroopam as the court stayed release of the film. This comes while hearing of the veteran actor’s plea against Tamil Nadu government’s ban on the release of his film in the state.

Tamil Nadu government had on Wednesday directed the district administrative officials to invoke relevant legal provisions to ban the screening of the film for about two weeks to ward off chances of law and order.

Notably, the ban came after several Muslim organisations protested against screening of the film claiming that it depicted the community in negative light.

Kamal Haasan is currently in the United States for the promotion of his movie. The Hindi version of the film titled Vishwaroop was premiered in Los Angeles on Wednesday for international audience.
