Haridwar: The magisterial probe in the Haridwar stampede that claimed 20 lives started on Friday.

Additional District Magistrate Girdhari Singh Rawat took stock of the mishap site and interrogated the doctors of Shanti Kunj Ashram.

“All circumstances that led to the unfortunate incident will be deeply scrutinized and then only any conclusion will be derived,” said Rawat.

Dr Ghanshyam Sharma of the ashram was inquired to get crucial links in the deadly incident.

The magistrate also reached the district hospital to record statements of the injured. But none of them were found in the hospital as they were released after giving first aid by the doctors, the same day.

Meanwhile, the police inquiry against the organisers of Lalji Mahayagyashala is still waiting for the selection of investigating officials who will probe the incident.

Speaking over the delay in police inquiry, SP Pushkar Singh Rawat said “We can execute our probe once things are clear after the magisterial inquiry.”

20 Gayatri Sadak (Gayatri devotees) were dead and over 50 injured after a stampede at Laljiwala Yagyashala near Har-Ki Pauri during five-day Gayatri Mahayagya.

The function was organised by All world Gayatri Parivar to mark the beginning of centenary celebrations of Acharya Pandit Shriram Sharma,the founder of 37-year-old Shanti Kunj Ashram.
