Jaipur: Jaipur: Former Maharaja of Jaipur, Sawai Bhawani Singh, passed away at Medicity hospital in Gurgaon on Saturday. He was 80.

His body was brought to City Palace, Jaipur on Sunday around 10:30 am. The funeral procession will take place on Monday. He was unwell for the past one month.  From past two weeks he was in a critical condition and was not responding to the medication given.

Singh, born on October 22, 1931, was the eldest son of the late Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II of Jaipur and Marudhar Kawar.

Maharaja received his early education at Doon School (Dehradun). He became part of the Indian Airforce and became a Commanding Officer in 1968.

During 1971 India-Pakistan war, he was awarded the Mahavir Chakra, the second highest wartime gallantry award.
