Mumbai: Social activist Anna Hazare who was earlier accused of being involved in neck-deep corruption from several Congress leaders is being accorded a royal welcome here. The state government has taken umpteen measures to placate the Gandhian so that all goes well in the Maratha land.

According to reports, Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan has instructed a few of his Cabinet colleagues as well as close officials to remain in contact with Anna Hazare. The reason behind this exercise are perceived to be political, as former Maharashtra CM Vilasrao Deshmukh’s close proximity with the Gandhian activist has given sleepless nights to Chavan.

Deshmukh played a key role of a troubleshooter for the government in dealing with Anna, and the Chavan government is not willing to give any opportunity to the masses to develop a soft corner for the former CM amidst prevailing Anna mania.

Therefore, he has assigned the task of being in Anna’s shadow to the state Home Minister, RR Patil, of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Minister of Water Resources Ramraje Nimbalkar.
