Maharashtra Home Minister RR Patil said that a separate urban police machinery would be set up in the municipal corporation administration, while a separate cell would be set up in the Economic Offences Wing of the police commissioner's office.
The Maharashtra home department would provide the staff for the new set up and accordingly 106 posts have been sanctioned in Thane, 158 posts in Pune and 70 posts in Mira-Bhayender, he said.
He said that municipal corporations have submitted resolutions passed at their general body meeting about the need to set up the new machinery.
Encroachments and illegal constructions in urban areas would be curbed by this machinery, he said.
