Mumbai: The proposed draft sports policy of the Maharashtra government has suggested appointment of sports coaches on an honorarium basis by educational institutes.

The policy, which has been lying in a limbo for the last few months, says sports coaches appointed on honorarium basis, by schools, should be paid by government in case the schools regularly participate in state level competitions for the four to five years.

Sports coaches should be given Rs 5,000 monthly honorarium, the policy has recommended.

The recommendations of this policy is yet to be taken up in the cabinet as finance department is unsure of the burden on the state exchequer.

The policy says in order to increase knowledge of sports teachers at taluka, district and state levels should be made aware of changes taking place in the sports field and every year a refreshment training camp of 10 days should be arranged by the sports department.

"This should be implemented for primary teachers at every Zilla Parishad and for secondary teachers by school education department," the policy draft says.
