"I impose complete faith and confidence in her. I wish to see her as the Prime Minister of India," said the writer activist while addressing a TMC rally here on Thursday.

She described Banerjee as a humanist, fighter and pro-people leader who has dedicated her life for the uplift of weaker sections of society, including minorities and Tribals.

Mahasweta Devi is a renowned writer who has been tryst with many honours including Magsaysay, Jnanpith and Padma Vibhushan.

Earlier, the 88-year-old writer-activist has given her full support during the Singur and Nandigram movements. However, when the TMC government came to power in West Bengal, the writer had called the state government "fascist" but retracted later.

Meanwhile, TMC chief blew the poll bugle on Thursday by kickstarting her party's Lok Sabha campaign. She said her party would go it alone in the 2014 polls and renewed her call for a federal front of non-Congress and non-BJP parties.
