Kolkata: The intellectuals’ criticism of the Trinamool Congress government decision to cancel meeting at Metro Channel has encouraged the Left Front leaders in West Bengal.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had unilaterally decided to cancel the meeting organized by 21 organizations including the Committee for Protection of Democratic Rights (CPDR) at Metro Channel. The eminent writer and social activist Mahasweta Devi has termed the government as ‘fascist’.

Echoing the same, Opposition leader Suryakant Mishra said, “The state government is obstructing the party conferences of the CPI (M).”

“My party has been terming the new government as the undemocratic and fascist but nobody believed it. Now truth has come out with the acceptance by the intellectuals,” Mishra added.

During the previous Left Front government, Mamata had held so many meetings without getting prior permissions, added the Opposition leader.

When the police prevented her from entering Singur, Mamata had marched to the Assembly and resorted to violence, Mishra added.

About 45 CPI (M) supporters have allegedly been killed during the six-month of the TMC-Congress regime. Mamata did not even bother to condemn the killing of 250 CPI (M) workers allegedly by the Maoists.
“She herself had jointly held a meeting in Junglemahal with Jansadharan Committee. Mamata had shared the dais with Chhatradhar Mahato in a meeting. She had joined hands with Maoists to unseat the LF government,” the Opposition leader alleged.
