Indore: A young mahout riding an elephant fell to death after the animal was hit by a speeding truck in Barodia Khan area here this afternoon, police said.

The deceased was identified as Mithun (22), police said adding that the animal also succumbed to injuries later in the evening.

According to police, the elephant lost its balance after it was hit by a speeding truck on Sanver Road here, due to which the youth atop it fell down and died on the spot.

The colleague of the deceased Bhola, who was walking on the road escaped unhurt, they added.

The animal, which was severely injured in the incident died in the evening and a crane was roped in to shift its carcass.

The driver of the truck and his helper were detained and their vehicle was seized, in-charge of Sanver police station UPS Chouhan said.
