Lucknow:  Miffed by the hollow promises made by political parties to the voters of Uttar Pradesh, Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi while addressing a public rally here came down heavily on the opposition and in haste tore the list of senior Congress leaders.

As soon as the Congress scion stepped on the stage, he was holding a list of the names of senior party leaders and candidates contesting the elections. The names comprised of 12 names including former Governor Motilal Vora, Rita Bahuguna Joshi, RPN Singh, Rashid Masood, Jagdambika Pal and Anil Shahstri.

During his speech, he launched a sharp attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party, Bahujan Samaj Party and the Samajwadi Party. He said, “I am holding the SP’s list of its poll promises. It mentions that the party would provide electricity, water and employment and if it fails to provide jobs, it will give unemployment allowance.”

He further said, “This is the same list which the SP had presented to the people during the previous polls,” and ripped it apart and flanked it to the ground, saying, “now you must have understood! The people do not want this list.”

However, the list torn by him was not of the SP but of the Congress itself bearing the names of its senior party leaders. Realising what had happened; the security personnel ran to the spot and picked up the pieces.

Earlier he said, “The whole world is aware of the progress that India is making, but UP has not moved an inch ahead. The state has not shown any kind of development as such.”
