New Delhi (JPN/Bureau): Facing barbs in the Malegaon blast case 2006, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has asked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to form an independent probe into the role of Srikant Purohit and Dayanand Pandey.

The two accused have also been charged with simultaneous plotting to eliminate RSS chief Mohanrao Bhagwat and his colleague Indresh Kumar.

RSS General Secretary Suresh Joshi said that it was a planned political attack as the Sangh could never be involved in killing of its leaders. He has sought time from the PM to discuss the matter.
However, Congress spokesman Abhishek Singhvi said that a year back the Sangh had vouched for the innocence of Purohit and Pandey.

RSS leader Manmohan Vaidya and spokesperson Ram Madhav claimed that the Maharashtra anti-terrorism squad had failed to investigate the confession by the main accused about their plan to target RSS leaders and added that the independent probe should reveal the political agenda of Col. Purohit, Pandey and their associates.
