Kolkata: Retorting to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s allegations that the central government is giving ‘step motherly’ treatment to West Bengal, Congress Pradesh chief Pradip Bhattacharya on Monday slammed West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for following the footsteps of former Chief Minister late Jyoti Basu.

“We agree that in nine months it is impossible to address the problems of the state but the way government is functioning signifies its mindset. Most of the TMC ministers are unaware about the functioning of their department. Now it has become a habit of the ministers to wait for Chief Minister’s clearance before taking any decision,” he said.

WBCC chief added, "I am hearing the voice of Jyoti Basu from the present chief minister. This is unfortunate. We did not expect this."

He further said that the outcome of the assembly elections 2012 may have an impact on Congress and TMC alliance.

He also rejected Banerjee’s allegation that the Centre doesn’t provide adequate development funds to the state.

“TMC is a part of the ruling establishment at the Centre, but it favours the BJP,” He said.

He also made it clear that the Congress will continue to protest against the government on the issue of farmers’ suicide.
