Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday invited Union Home Minister P Chidambaram at the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration's (GTA) swearing-in ceremony scheduled on August 4.

"I have also requested our Governor M K Narayanan to administer the oath to the GTA members on that day," she said.

"After many years new members will take office in the new Darjeeling Hill Council as per the GTA agreement", she said.

Banerjee had congratulated Gorkha Janamukti Morcha (GJM) during her recent north Bengal tour for their participation in "democratic process."

"They will take oath next month. I congratulate all of them for their participation in democratic process," she wrote in a recent post on Facebook.

"I convey my best wishes and full support to their sincere efforts of bringing peace, development and prosperity in Darjeeling," she said.

Polling for GTA will be held on July 29. GJM has already won uncontested 28 out of the total 45 seats.
