Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has given her order to inquire alleged phone tapping during the Left regime. The Chief Minister has directed police and top brass officials to find out at whose instance and for what purpose such phone tapping had taken place.

The CM said that she gave the orders after receiving some complaints in this connection and added that those who are involved in criminal activities can be under the vigil of the investigating agencies through tapping their phones but it is no one’s constitutional right to eavesdrop on leaders, journalists and government officers.

The CM held a meeting with Chief Secretary Samar Ghosh, Commissioner of Kolkata Police R Panchnanda and high police officials in the Writers' Building in order to review the law and order situation of the state.
