Kolkata: In a bid to weaken the base of the Opposition in West Bengal, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday has announced to offer the post of Chairperson of State Commission for Women to Sunanda Mukherjee, wife of senior RSP leader Kshiti Goswami.

Mamata may assign some key responsibilities to some other leader’s wives and Left intellectuals in various committees in future.
Speculations are rife in the state that RSP may sever ties with the Left Front. The CM has been successful in her endeavor to water down the attack of the state Opposition as she extended olive branch to the RSP leadership, which is disenchanted with the Left.

West Bengal Socialist Party’s (WBSP) national general secretary Kiranmoy Nanda recently said, “The party is disillusioned with the Left Front,” and added that the Left did not give importance to its allies and this is the reason for its rout in the state Assembly polls.

The leaders of Forward Block and the Communist Party of India (CPI) are also speaking openly against the CPI-M. Now, the CPI-M faces the task of how to dissuade some of the Left leaders who are being wooed by the Trinamool Party.

Trinamool chief whip Sovandeb Chattopadhyay says, “Left leaders have been attracted with development plan of Trinamool so they are keen to join the party.”
